Description

A light, fresh, and flavorful Italian-inspired sandwich made with ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, basil leaves, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, perfect for quick lunches or summer picnics.


Ingredients

  • 1 fresh baguette or 2 ciabatta rolls

  • 23 ripe tomatoes, sliced

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • A handful of fresh basil leaves

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze

  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Sliced avocado

  • Prosciutto or grilled chicken

  • Pesto spread

  • Arugula or spinach


Instructions

  • Slice the baguette or rolls lengthwise and lightly toast if desired.

  • Drizzle the cut sides of the bread with extra virgin olive oil.

  • Layer fresh mozzarella slices on the bottom half of the bread.

  • Add slices of ripe tomato on top of the mozzarella.

  • Sprinkle with salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

  • Tear fresh basil leaves and layer them over the tomatoes.

  • Drizzle balsamic glaze evenly over the filling.

  • Place the top half of the bread over the ingredients, press gently, slice, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For added flavor, spread pesto on the bread before layering the ingredients.

  • Make your own balsamic glaze by simmering balsamic vinegar until thickened.
